Youth Development

The Youth Development programmes aim to guide youths towards achieving their goals and aspirations through our enhanced mentoring
and educational support programmes. 4PM will journey with our youths and celebrate their milestones. This is significant for 4PM as
youths represent the identity and heartbeat of 4PM. Youths are also the future of our community. We aim to do so through the following
programmes and with strong supports from our partners; Institute of Technical Education (ITE) and Singapore Prison Service (SPS).

ITE Partnerships for Youths

ITE Partnerships for Youth

4PM’s Partnership with ITE aims to provide a holistic service to the ITE students and create more opportunities for all students to develop, grow, and inculcate values such as lifelong and independent learning, having an entrepreneurial mindset, and give back and sharing with the community. For more than 10 years, this partnership has reached out and benefited more than 30,000 students.

Here are the few programme under 4PM’s ITE Partnerships for Youths:

FRENZ Mentoring

FRENZ is a comprehensive, mentoring programme catered specially for at-risk ITE students.

Tapping on to the Positive Youth Development framework, mentors will be matched with ITE students in a relationship based on interpersonal support, guidance, mutual exchange, coaching and role modeling. Apart from the students, we also hope to achieve a partnership between schools and the community to ensure a stable network of supporting systems.

Using the multifaceted approach of Positive Youth Development and mentoring, students participate in developmental activities that encourages social interaction and empathy. FRENZ hopes to engage these youths who are on the brink of success to acquire the 5Cs. It is further hoped that as the students experience the FRENZ programme, they will develop and grow into responsible young persons who are able to enrich the lives of others.

Bestari Club

After being accorded the Bestari Awards, 4PM aims to continue creating more opportunities for fellow Bestarians to experience, develop and grow through our youth developmental and mentoring programmes. Bestari Club is a progressive engagement programme that gives them an opportunity to give back to the community.

Their journey as a Bestarian goes beyond academic excellence. Many of our past recipients have gone on to continuously serve the community, involving themselves in other projects in bITE such as becoming a mentor for FRENZ and GEMS, participating in Ramadan on Wheels (ROW) and many more.

Bestari Award Ceremony

4PM BESTARI AWARD CEREMONY is an annual award that recognizes and rewards outstanding Malay/Muslim ITE students who have demonstrated excellent academic achievements. Every year, this award is given to the top 45 students across all three ITEs.

Students will be selected and recommended by their respective Section Heads, based on their academic results and other given criterias. Only one student from the cohort will be selected for the 4PM Bestari Outstanding Student Award. This is, by far, the highest award accorded to ITE students and it aims to exemplify an outstanding, well-balanced and all rounded student, who has shown exceptional desire, determination and commitment to progress and succeed throughout his or her stay in ITE.

Spaces @ ITE: CHECK-INz Centres at ITE College East and ITE College Central

CHECK-INz Centre provides a welcoming environment for all students, serving as a designated youth space available at both ITE Central and ITE East campuses. In addition to offering a place for students to unwind and rejuvenate between classes, CHECK-INz fosters opportunities for interaction with mentors, facilitating open discussions on any topic. It prioritizes creating a safe and inclusive space where students can freely express themselves and engage with peers and mentors in a supportive atmosphere.

X-PERIENCE@4PM

X-Perience@4PM offers ITE students an opportunity to gain hands-on experience, practical skills, or exposure to different industries or fields of study. The “X” in “X-perience” may represent experimentation, exploration, or excellence – suggesting a dynamic and immersive learning experience.

Akademi Bahas

During its formative years, 4PM’s main focus was on education and the promotion of the Malay language, with debate being one of its core programmes. The very first Bahas competition was held in 1952. Since then 4PM has been the proud organizer of the annual Bahas 4PM competition.

The Malay-language pre-university debating competition was revived in 1993 and since then the competition has become a national oratorical competition, held annually. Over the past 30 years, 4PM has explored various debating formats, in line with international standards and incorporated activities for the debate series. This includes oratorical skills workshops or “Atelier Bahas” for secondary schools, presidential debate camps known as “Perkampungan Bahas” for tertiary students, Bahas Muhibbah for regional debaters and also organizing study trips for alumni debaters to overseas debate competitions.

4PM formalized the Malay Debate Competition for tertiary institutions and in 2015, the competition for secondary schools was introduced. Since then, Bahas 4PM has incorporated several innovations to continually challenge students’ debating potential. In 2016, 4PM officially launched the 4PM Debate Academy or better known as “Akademi Bahas 4PM”, which incorporates the life cycle of a debater as young as secondary school level. To date, it is still the only Malay national debating series organized for students in Singapore.

Singapore Prison Service Partnership for Children and Youths

The Upstream Intervention Programme, initiated in partnership with the Singapore Prisons Service, is a comprehensive initiative designed to engage children, youth, and their families in developmental activities. Through this collaboration, the program aims to empower youths aged 7-19 and their caregivers by providing moral and socio-emotional support, enhancing their sense of self, emotional resilience, and fostering prosocial behavior. By curating activities focused on enhancing social support and emotional resilience, the program creates opportunities for positive growth and meaningful connections within the community. Together, these efforts contribute to a nurturing environment that promotes overall well-being and strengthens familial bonds.
